Winter (December to February)
The coldest, wettest time of year, with averages between 4°C and 12°C in the valley floor (colder still in Vila Real and higher-altitude areas) and around 300mm of rain concentrated across these three months. It's also the quietest season for tourism, ideal for those seeking quiet who don't mind shorter, colder days. Christmas and New Year are the exception: quintas across the region see strong demand for celebration dinners and festivities.
Spring (March to May)
Temperatures rise gradually (from averages around 11°C in March to 16°C in May) as rainfall decreases. This is the season of the Almond Blossom Festival, between February and March, one of the first big markers of the Douro's peak season.

Summer (June to August)
