The Casa da Granja <\/u><\/a>It is a true testament to architectural splendor spanning centuries! Located in the picturesque village of Anreade, in Resende, this 17th-century property is known for its distinctive fusion of Mannerist and Baroque influences, offering a unique glimpse into Portugal's rich cultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main house, characterized by its horizontal layout and ornate decorative elements, features a grand upper floor adorned with rectangular windows topped by friezes. A prominent coat of arms, belonging to the Pinto Machado family who have owned the property for generations, proudly dominates the main entrance gate. Curiously, access to the property is not through the front facade, but rather via a side staircase, adding to its historical mystery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Casa da Granja is a wellspring of history and tradition! The property is also known as Casa de Santo Ant\u00f3nio do Muro, due to the existence of a niche with an image of Saint Anthony, and his name is engraved in the granite. In the past, local inhabitants lit oil lamps in supplication for their sick animals. Adding to its charm are statues representing two Moorish figures and an Arab warrior, which gives it the local name, Quinta dos Mouros (Moorish Estate).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The street leading to the house, known as Rua da Granja, has been paved, losing its historical essence. The Roman road is marked, so you will have no difficulty locating it on your GPS. According to Joaquim Correia Duarte, Casa da Granja is located in the parish of Anreade, which derives from the name. Antreatus \u2013 <\/em>a Roman lord who is believed to have owned and colonized this land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For centuries, the house was owned by the Pinto Machado family, having hosted notable figures such as Dona Francisca Pinto da Fonseca in the 17th century and the physician Dr. Alberto Augusto Cesar Pinto Machado at the end of the 19th century. The latter was a prominent figure in medicine, journalism, and politics, as well as having been president of the Association of Journalists and Men of Letters of Porto and of Futebol Clube do Porto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As such, Casa da Granja harmoniously combines its historical past with modern comforts, making it an ideal destination for leisure stays with family or groups of friends. Spanning over 800 square meters, the property can accommodate up to 16 guests in 8 spacious bedrooms, all equipped with private bathrooms ensuring privacy and convenience. The exception is the \u201cQueen\u2019s Room,\u201d named in honor of Queen Dona Mafalda, which retains its 17th-century furniture, including an impressive Philippine four-poster bed in rosewood. The house's living rooms preserve their original layout, with furniture primarily from the 17th and 18th centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
